Alek: I may be delusional from watching three episodes of this show back to back to back…but I actually think this show has become enjoyable. While the “aftermath” episode (#6) was pretty painful to watch, the past few episodes have delved into the celebrity issues that I spoke about in the last review and have made the show interesting.

…I mean, the episode still begins with the horrible actors they chose to play “young Walker” and “young Royalle”, but other than that little misstep…I was actually engaged throughout. The flashback at the beginning sets up a telling conversation between “old” Walker and “old” Royalle that finally fleshes out their relationship. In the comic books, Walker and Royalle are just enemies…a cop and a mob boss. The TV series has alluded to their shared pasts and their interaction at the beginning of this episode finally felt like a real conversation between two people. (Albeit, with way too much gravel in their voices. Is that how Powers age? Their voices become scratchy and indecipherable from powers use?) And that might be the biggest change in the show…the interactions between the characters actually feel genuine. Maybe it took seven episodes, but they’ve finally established distinct and interesting voices for this ensemble cast.

The episode also came together nicely in terms of the plot. The Kaotic Chic and Zora storylines converged and the outcome actually held some emotional weight. As opposed to the previous deaths that have occurred on the show, Crispin’s Mom’s (yeah..I don’t know her character’s name…sue me) death actually meant something to the central characters.

And for two episodes in a row (although last episode’s ending wasn’t really addressed in this episode)…it was a strong ending that makes me want to continue binge-watching.

…I’m so getting set up for more disappointment, aren’t I?

Top Five Things That Disappointed Me From the Eighth Episode (from “shaking my head” to WTF???)

5. I really need more drunk Triphammer…we only had a few minutes of him slurring words.
4. Is it tacky to wear your own t-shirt when you’re a superhero? I mean…you never wear your own band’s shirt, right?
3. I was really rooting for Calista to jump off the roof…can that happen soon?
2. RedHawk…the power to fly…and to have weird hands. Wow, he really got the crap end of the powers spectrum. So, did Sway make his nails extra pointy?
1. Whatever happened to Mario Lopez? (On this show…not in life…the latter is just one of the great mysteries in life.)

And for two episodes in a row (although last episode’s ending wasn’t really addressed in this episode)…it was a strong ending that makes me want to continue binge-watching.

John: [Note: Although John and I both agreed to purchase Powers and to suffer through each episode, John has abandoned me and refuses to buy the series. That’s just lame. For each review, I’ll post this note highlighting just how lame John is. He sucks. Damn him for making me suffer through this series alone. And now, it’s even worse…since Playstation is allowing people to rent the series for FREE!]
