Games I’m looking forward to this year…

E3 is around the corner. Many games have already been announced for this year, but there are always a few games that will be left as surprises. I’m always pretty excited about what comes out of the conference so I know what to look forward to especially come the October – November release time frame.

So, what am I looking forward to playing this year? First game that comes to mind is Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain. No big surprises there. A ton of people are looking forward to this one. This game has some baggage with it. MGS5 seems to be the final project for Hideo Kojima with publisher, Konami, especially after news that the Silent Hills project had been cancelled and Konami is now focusing on mobile gaming. Snake / Big Boss, the main character, will not be voiced by veteran, David Hayter, but Keifer Sutherland. That’s a strange change of pace, but early reports are that the long (and sometimes confusing) cutscenes have been reduced dramatically. Most sites are reacting positively, likening first impressions to the previous MGS installment, Peace Walker. Sign me up. I’d love to experience Kojima’s swan song.

I can still remember the emotional impact the Shadow had on me when I came across the first colussi as I wandered across the land.

Next, I’m stoked for Fallout 4. What an awesome series. An open world that doesn’t hold your hand. The characters are memorable and the story stays with you. I even love the infamous Bethesda quirks like the floating goblets and weird clipping bugs. For as big as the world that Bethesda creates, I can forgive these little things. I think the graphics look like a real upgrade from Fallout 3 and New Vegas. I’m definitely on-board for this one.

Finally, I am hopefully that the Last Guardian will be announced at E3. Team Ico, the development team that gave us real classics like Shadow of the Colossus and Ico, have been rumored to have finally finished the game. I can still remember the emotional impact the Shadow had on me when I came across the first colussi as I wandered across the land. The only other game that had that much of an impact on me was The Last of Us. Looks like it’s going to be a good year for gaming! Now if I can only find time to play them…
